Reading Is A Good Habit

This is an ancient story where one of the pupils asked her teacher the benefit of reading. He complained that even he forcefully compels himself to read something, he forgets that in a couple of days.

The teacher told the pupil, "My child, I will tell you the benefit, but before that could you please take this dry muddy bucket and bring me a basket of water from the river."

The pupil took the bucket and went to bring back the water. While returning, he found bucket had holes. When he reached the school, he found the bucket was empty.

He went again and this time, he rushed while returning. But bucket was still empty. The teacher told her to rush faster. He did this again and again, faster and faster. Finally, he gave up on collecting the water saying, "It is useless to put more effort because bucket can't hold water for long". But he didn't lose the hope to ask the benefit of reading.

Now the teacher was ready with the answer. The answer lied in the attempt he made so far. The teacher, "Son, what you see useless is having its own benefits. See the bucket." The bucket got cleaned completely with water. "See the plants you gave water on your trips. Also, you gained muscular strength during the course. So you may not have collected any water, still it was a fruitful effort for you.

Same goes for reading. When we are reading, we may not understand completely or forget most of the part after a while. But when we are reading, it is changing us gradually inside and out."
